Tiger Woods tests eye-catching new TaylorMade putter at Japan Skins

October 21, 2019

Tiger Woods’ Scotty Cameron Newport 2 GSS putter still has a spot in the bag, but for a brief minute during the Japan Skins event, the 15-time major winner decided to roll a few putts with something new from TaylorMade.

Golf Channel’s Tiger Tracker account spotted Woods tinkering with a prototype putter prior to teeing off on Monday. The Anser-style blade has a unique neck design and the word “Truss” stamped in the cavity. A triangular piece of material connects the heel section of the head to an angled plumber’s neck that appears to enter the topline just short of center.

TaylorMade hasn’t commented on the design, but with 2020 products set to launch in the coming months, it’s possible the equipment manufacturer is in the feedback-gathering stage at the moment.

As for the “Truss” name on the back of the head, it’s worth noting the definition for truss is, “a framework, typically consisting of rafters, posts, and struts, supporting a roof, bridge, or other structure.”

Could the eye-catching neck design add stability to the head? It’s certainly possible.
