Playing golf at Walt Disney World is a sensible way to escape the hustle and bustle (read: Mickey-infused madness) found at the theme parks and hotels in the area. Also, the courses are really good, earning high praise from casual golfers and serious players alike for their challenge and beautiful scenery (plus it’s kind of fun to see the theme parks looming in the distance). There are four designs, including three 18-hole offerings (Magnolia, Palm and Lake Buena Vista) and a fourth, Oak Trail, that is a family-friendly, walking-only nine-holer. Each features classic Floridian landscapes, vistas and a surprising array of wildlife — and, no, not the animatronic kind! Lake Buena Vista is the must-play, having hosted several PGA Tour, LPGA and USGA events. The Palm, though, might be the toughest challenge with water on nine holes and nearly 100 bunkers. There are endless hotel options for all budgets but if you want to treat yourself, book the Victorian-style Disney Grand Floridian, which is the only Disney property with a spa.
