Thorbjorn Olesen pleads not guilty to sexual assault charges
Just weeks after being arrested at London Heathrow airport and being suspended by the European Tour, Thorbjorn Olesen has pleaded not guilty to charges of sexual assault, assault by beating and being drunk on an aircraft.
According to a Sky Sports report, Olesen briefly appeared in court at Uxbridge Magistrates Court in London to confirm his name, age and address.
Olesen, a five-time European Tour winner, was arrested on July 29 following his return from the World Golf Championships-FedEx St. Jude Invitational. He was accused of molesting a woman on the flight and verbally abusing passengers and crew. An eye-witness also claimed that Olesen urinated in the first-class aisle.
Following his arrest, The Met Police confirmed Olesen was arrested on “suspicion of sexual assault, being drunk on board an aircraft and failing to comply with the orders of cabin crew.” Police said he was subsequently released under investigation.
Olesen’s case will be heard by a jury at Isleworth Crown Court on September 18.
A member of the victorious 2018 European Ryder Cup team, Olesen remains suspended by the European Tour.
At the time of the suspension, the European Tour said Olesen will be barred from competing on Tour until the upcoming trial is complete. The Tour did not add additional details, saying, “As it remains a pending case, we currently have no further comments.”
