WATCH: Shane Lowry’s grandma reveals how hard it was watching British Open
Shane Lowry’s victory in the 2019 British Open at Royal Portrush this past Sunday wasn’t the easiest to watch for all of his family and friends. Just ask his adorable grandma Emily Scanlon.
In an interview on Monday with the Irish news outlet RTE News, Lowry’s grandma revealed how difficult it was for her to watch her 32-year-old grandson become a major champion.
“Oh, terrible,” Scanlon said when asked how tough it was watching Lowry. “Emotional now, it was. I hadn’t slept [on Saturday]. I hadn’t drank a brandy since 2009 and I drank two [on Sunday] — it’s nearly killing me.”
It sounds like those two glasses of brandy did a number on Lowry’s grandma as she watched him become Champion Golfer of the Year. But Scanlon said she’s extremely proud of her grandson after he won the Claret Jug.
“I am a very proud granny. Oh I am,” Scanlon said. “It’s great to live to see all this happening.” Watch the full interview below, which includes a funny story relating to Tiger Woods.

Let’s hope that Lowry’s next victory, major tournament or not, doesn’t stress out his incredible grandma any more than he already has. Hopefully her next drink is a much more enjoyable one.
