Brooks Koepka dethrones Dustin Johnson in world ranking with PGA win

May 22, 2019

With his victory at the 2019 PGA Championship, Koepka rose to No. 1 in the Official World Golf Ranking, surpassing his good friend Dustin Johnson for the top spot. The development ends Johnson’s five-week reign as the best-ranked golfer.

Koepka began PGA Championship week ranked No. 3, but his second-straight PGA win and fourth major championship victory were enough to push him past Johnson and Justin Rose in the ranking. As a result, DJ drops to second and Rose drops to third.

It is the second time in his career that Koepka risen to the rankings summit. He previously spent two weeks there at the end of last season thank to his win at The CJ Cup @ Nine Bridges.

Tiger Woods fans might still be smarting from Tiger’s disappointing missed cut at the PGA, but the poor showing didn’t hurt Woods in terms of his world rank. Woods remains at No. 6 in the World, a spot he has stayed since his triumphant comeback win at the Masters in April.

Bryson DeChambeau was not as fortunate as Woods. His own missed cut at Bethpage Black saw the rising star fall three spots to No. 8. Rickie Fowler didn’t fare all that much better at the PGA, closing with a round of 77 on Sunday to finish T36. But that performance was good enough inch Fowler back up into the Top 10 in the rankings.
