How to book tee times on the Old Course during the best time of year

August 14, 2019

The key to a good golf trip is planning ahead. You might have missed the boat for your Scotland trip to the Old Course this time around, but don’t worry, there’s good news: You can get a head start on 2020.

On Wednesday, the home of golf sent out an email to its subscribers letting people submit applications to the course for four different times of year.

Anyway, here’s the rundown on how you can take advantage of this and get a head start on planning the ultimate golf trip in 2020.

First off, you should probably subscribe, but if you don’t want to for whatever reason, head over to play.standrews.com to get the same experience. Once you’re there you’ll be presented with four different options, which you can see below.

The first option is the “high” season, which runs from late April to mid October. It’s the nicest time of year, weather-wise, which is why it costs the most (about $400 dollars per person, according to the current exchange rate.)

The “shoulder” season is the two weeks either side of the “high” season, which is why it’s a little cheaper. A good option for people looking for some value.

The “low” season is the rest of the year. It’s the cheapest option, but obviously the weather won’t be as nice, and you’ll likely have to play off little mats between November and February. But hey! It’s still the Old Course, the one trip every golfer has to make.
