This little Ohio golf course has a brilliantly quirky layout
I’ve been lucky enough to play some high-profile golf courses, but for as wonderful as those courses undoubtedly are, some of the most memorable tracks I’ve ever played are the lowest-profile. The small, local, public, and downright quirky tracks that burst with character.
I haven’t played Fernbank Golf Course in Cincinnati, Ohio, but the course looks like it fits squarely into that description. It’s an executive course with four par 4s and five par 3s, topping out at 2,198 yards, and its layout made the rounds on Reddit over the weekend.
As you can see below, it’s brilliantly quirky: Fernbank’s 254 yard par-4 first hole stretches almost clear across the property — crossing five of the course’s other eight holes along the way.
Google Earth illustrates how tiny a plot of land the course resides on (as courses like this often are). The designers clearly needed to make room for a longer hole somewhere, so why not stretch it across all the others? Either that, or the course architects built eight holes, forgot they needed one more, and quickly stuck one in the middle at the last moment.

Either way, it looks like a lot of fun and only slightly dangerous. One to keep in mind the next time you find yourself in Ohio.
