Las Vegas is known as the Entertainment Capital of the World, and if watching the best players make birdies is your thing, you were certainly in your element at TPC Summerlin on Thursday, where well over half of the 132-player field finished under par.
Here’s what else you missed from Round 1 of the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open.
Lots of players made lots of birdies, but Peter Uihlein made the most
Peter Uihlein currently leads the tournament by one shot over Tour rookie Seth Reeves after firing a first-round 63 (eight under par). Uihlein made six birdies on the front nine (including four straight on Nos. 1-4) and three on the back. For those doing the math, yes, that’s a total of nine.

His lone bogey came on the par-4 7th, when a long approach left him with a 35-foot up-and-down attempt and he missed the subsequent five-footer for par.
Uihlein, a former U.S. Amateur champion (2010), is still seeking his first PGA Tour victory.
Marquee players had good showings
Tournament headliners Jordan Spieth and Bryson DeChambeau each fired smooth rounds of 66 (five under par) and are currently T3, three shots behind Uihlein’s lead.
DeChambeau managed to get through the round without a single bogey, while Spieth’s seven birdies were countered by two bogeys. The good news for Spieth? It looks like the putter is warming up again.

Cameron Champ’s golf swing has officially impressed everyone
Backstreet Boy Brian Littrell was on hand to witness the awe-inspiring spectacle that is a Cameron Champ drive, and even he was left speechless, simply exhaling a soft “Pshoo” in response.
