WATCH: Did this MLB slugger hit a golf ball OUT of Topgolf?

November 11, 2019

You needn’t spend much time on social media to stumble upon “hilarious” videos of famous athletes or celebs beating balls at Topgolf. In most of these clips, the gag is the same: haha, look at this world-class sportsman struggling to hit a golf ball. Which makes this recent video of Minnesota Twins slugger Nelson Cruz so refreshing.

For starters, Cruz is no stranger to crushing balls out of parks. He has 401 career home runs, including 41 last season. But in his free time maybe he should consider picking up golf, because based on this video he posted to his Instagram, he’d have little trouble taking advantage of short par-4s.

In fact, based on the video below, it looks like Cruz actually hit this ball OUT of the venue. That’s a Ruthian smash. (Although we should tell you that hitting it outside or over the nets at a Topgolf is actually a safety rules violation, so please play by the rules, folks.)

Topgolf ranges typically max out at 215 yards (according to a Topgolf spokesperson), and the nets are roughly 150 feet. Some reporters might be capable of employing high-level mathematics to figure out how far Cruz hit this ball based on the length of the range and height of the net, but I’m not one of them. Let’s just say this — that’s one hammered golf ball. Check it out here:
