The 2025 Masters will be missing one crucial player when the tournament kicks off on Thursday morning.
Tiger Woods, a five-time green jacket winner, will not be playing in the 89th edition of the Masters after undergoing a procedure for a ruptured achilles earlier this spring. He revealed his injury diagnosis last month in a brief statement on social media.
As I began to ramp up my own training and practice at home, I felt a sharp pain in my left Achilles, which was deemed to be ruptured.

According to his statement, the 15-time major winner felt a “sharp pain” in his achilles tendon after practicing and training at home. On March 11, he underwent a “minimally-invasive” procedure to repair the ruptured tendon.
Woods has not played competitive golf since last July’s Open Championship, although he did play the PNC Championship alongside his son, Charlie, in December. He also played in four matches earlier this year in TGL, the simulator league he cofounded.
This will be the first time the 49-year-old has missed the Masters since a devastating car accident sidelined him for the entire 2022 season. Since his victory in 2019, Woods has finished no better than T38 in four starts at Augusta National.
Woods did not provide any timetable for his recovery, although he did say he expects to make a “full recovery.”
