With another tournament comes another week of Rory McIlroy being the betting favorite. The World No. 1 enters this week’s Players Championship as the favorite to win, and defend his title, with 8/1 odds via golfodds.com.
McIlroy has been on an absolute tear in the 2019-20 season, having yet to finish outside the top 5 in any of his six starts, including one victory at the WGC-HSBC Champions. He heads back to TPC Sawgrass after his one-stroke victory last season as he looks to become just the seventh person to win the event multiple times.
Justin Thomas comes in second in odds this week at 12/1. Though Thomas has never won the Players, he does already have two wins to his name this season and a third-place performance at TPC Sawgrass in 2016.
World No. 2 Jon Rahm lags behind Thomas with 16/1 odds. Rahm seemingly never finishes outside of the top 10 these days (just once in five starts this year) but he is still searching for his first win of 2020. The Players would be quite the place for a breakthrough.
Patrick Cantlay and Bryson DeChambeau occupy the last two spots in the top five with 20/1 odds. Each is seeking their first win on the season.
