Fort Worth Police mock thief who stole golf clubs with Dukes of Hazzard references

December 12, 2018

Some people will do anything for a new set of clubs. That apparently includes stealing them.

Take the news from Forth Worth, Texas, where a man was caught on surveillance video swiping golf clubs from an open garage. He was caught shoving the clubs through the driver’s-side window and into the car.

Here’s where it takes a turn. While the Forth Worth Police were searching for the thief, they couldn’t help themselves from poking some fun at him. This included references to an iconic TV show.

According to the police, the man was seen driving a maroon Ford Fusion, but they were unsure if the driver’s side door actually opened. Not only did the thief shove his golf clubs through the window, but he was also was spotted climbing in and out of the car through that same window.

Dukes of Hazzard fans will be quick to recall the iconic entrances into the General Lee that were a hallmark of the show. Well, the Fort Worth Police couldn’t resist. They took to Twitter to mock the thief, calling him the “Doof of Hazzard.”

The tweet features a video of the General Lee before cutting to the surveillance footage of the man stealing the clubs, placing them in his car through the window, and re-entering his car through that same window. Oh, and it of course the Dukes of Hazzard theme song plays in the background.

The tweet also tagged three of the TV show’s biggest stars: Catherine Bach, who played Daisy Duke; John Schneider, who played Bo Duke; and Tom Wopat, who played Luke Duke.

Sounds like a job for the Duke boys. Maybe they’ll help the Forth Worth Police find their man.
