We used Artificial Intelligence to analyze Charles Barkley’s golf swing. Here’s what we found.

NBA Hall of Famer Charles Barkley tees off during the Julius Erving Golf Classic in 2017.

Charles Barkley is practically a legend around these parts, right? His golf swing is one of a kind. It’s unique — so unique, in fact, that we employed the help of artificial intelligence to help us understand it.

For that, we turned to our friends over at SWING AI. SWING AI is the system that powers Swing Index app, a mobile app where a GOLF Top 100 Teacher uses artificial intelligence to analyze and grade your swing, then give you digital lessons to help you improve it. Follow the link to sign up for the app and get your Swing Index.

So, what’s Charles Barkley’s Swing Index? First, lets take a few looks at Barkley’s swing.

GOLF Top 100 Teacher and Chief Swing Officer of Swing AI, Joe Plecker, broke it down. His overall Swing Index is a 3.14, as you can see below, an overall number that was bogged down by low scores on his tempo and upper body movement — the cause of the legendary hitch in Barkley’s swing.

But good news! A recent video of Barkley’s swing that went viral shows that Barkley’s swing has actually improved! Check it out:

No more hitch in his downswing! Better tempo! Still some work to be done, but as you can see, we had Joe cook-up a new Swing Index and he’s up to 4.14. Good Job, Charles!
