Why Cameron Smith’s golf swing is designed to hit a butter fade

January 14, 2020

Backswing

Cam Smith wants his torso and arms to stay connected throughout the backswing. He does this by keeping his arms close to his body and feeling his wrists hinge early, which narrows his swing arc and brings the clubhead slightly outside on the backswing.

Downswing

Cam works on not allowing the club to get too long at the top of his backswing. His key for good tempo is feeling a slight pause and allowing the club to set.

Follow Through

Cam liks hitting a fade. As the clubface comes down, it’s slightly closed, but he compensates by releasing the club left, around his body, which prevents the clubface from closing and moves his path to slightly out-to-in, which helps him hit his favorite fade every time.
