Can you spot the difference in Bryson DeChambeau’s ‘new’ swing?

September 3, 2019

Bryson DeChambeau thinks a lot about golf. In fact, he’s probably forgotten more about golf than even the most avid golf nerds will ever remember.

This week, Bryson put all that knowledge to work with a brain-teaser of an Instagram post. He said he’s been putting in some offseason work and challenged his followers to spot the difference, so give it a go.

Here’s his latest swing video:

Here’s one from a few months ago, for reference:

Can you spot a difference? I have to admit: I’m no swing coach, but I’ve spent a not-insignificant amount of time looking at this video and can’t really spot anything. It looks like he might be employing more lower body turn on the backswing. His club also seems to be working more inside-to-out on the downswing — but not sure if that’s intended.

Instead, I’ve convinced myself that this is a trick question from Bryson. That his swing is basically the same, and that he knows it. The only change between the two is an inconsequential one he alludes to via his hashtag.

If you watch the full video, you can see that his right shoelace is untied, too. The plot thickens!

Maybe I’ve just stared at the video for too long and have started imagining things, but I think there’s potential here. Bryson’s experimenting with untying his shoelaces for the forthcoming season.

Anyway, stay tuned as this important story develops.
