Brandel Chamblee reacts live on air to Masters postponement

Brandel Chamblee is a must-watch during every major event on golf’s calendar. And never was that more true than during an extraordinary 24 hours where the Players Championship, The Masters, a number of PGA Tour events and other events were all halted over escalating fears over the coronavirus’ spread.

The Golf Channel “Live From” crew were processing the news in real time, but kept a remarkable sense of composure as they analyzed the news of the day.

Chamblee, in particular, was especially enlightening, bringing calm and introspection during a fast-moving situation.

He started by addressing the decision to cancel the event, and what golf risked if it didn’t do so:

Golf already suffers from a reputation of being elitist, being buffeted from the real world by the gates that keep people from many of their prestigious venues. To keep on playing would have not only risked being viewed as but also being a community of transmission. It also would have risked being tone-dead to the severity of the crisis. Then fighting that global PR deteriorating battle, it just made so much more sense given the avalanche of cancelations everywhere else to falll in line in that regard.

Then, when news broke that The Masters would be postponed, Chamblee reacting to the news Live on Air with his characteristic eloquence and calm. He was a voice of reason once again,
