Who is Phil Mickelson’s new caddie? Why he has a fill-in at the Genesis Invitational

February 13, 2020

Phil Mickelson will have a new man carrying his bag this week, but it’s only a temporary change.

Mickelson’s regular caddie — his brother, Tim Mickelson — tweeted on Wednesday that he’s taking the week off to recover from a couple of injuries. Lefty will instead have his teacher, Andrew Getson, play the role as fill-in caddie at this week’s Genesis Invitational. This is Phil Mickelson’s fifth consecutive start, so Tim Mickelson had little time to rest prior to taking this week off.

Tim Mickelson has been on his brother’s bag since 2017 when Phil and Jim “Bones” Mackay parted ways. He was previously an agent at Lagardère Sports and the head men’s golf coach at Arizona State.

Phil Mickelson is coming off his best start in a year. After winning the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am in 2019, he finished third last week at Pebble (his best result since that victory).

Phil Mickelson tees off at 10:27 a.m. ET on the 10th tee on Thursday alongside Brooks Koepka and Bubba Watson. Check out complete odds to win the Genesis here.
