Tyrrell Hatton lives up to fiery reputation, launches club into fescue after hitting tree

July 13, 2019

Tyrrell Hatton is on the short-list of world’s most fiery pro golfers. He rarely shies away from showing — perhaps even shouting — how he is feeling. Friday at the Renaissance Club in Scotland was no different.

While playing the par-4 10th hole during the Scottish Open, Hatton had just barely missed the fairway left and was apparently trying to hit a hook around a tree that stood between him and the green. When his shot clanked off the tree, Hatton absolutely whipped his club into the fescue, dozens of yards away.

Hatton launched his club so swiftly, it seemed to even surprise himself as he quickly jerked to see where it landed. Check it out for yourself in the video below.

If only that was it. Hatton was grouped with Brandon Stone and Justin Thomas, and as the broadcast turned to take in Stone’s approach from the fairway, well, it seemed like Hatton wasn’t done getting his frustration out.

Stone played on, unfazed, and rather impressively, Hatton did, too. The Englishman was able to get up and down for par on the 10th, and birdie three his next four holes. If only that was all. Hatton proceeded to turn up Saturday and make eight birdies to jump into the top five on the leaderboard.

He’ll have an afternoon tee time for the final round, but one question remains unanswered: did he get that club back?
