Tiger Woods returns home to find Masters trophy waiting for him

July 2, 2019

Tiger Woods took some time off following his U.S. Open appearance, but he returned home to Jupiter, Fla., to find a nice reminder of all he’s accomplished in this latest comeback. His Masters trophy was waiting.

Woods tweeted a picture of the trophy on Tuesday. “Came home to another package in the mail. I think I can find a spot on the shelf for this one. Thanks everyone for your support, and thank you to my friends at @TheMasters,” he wrote.

While every Masters champ gets to keep their green jacket for a year following their victory (after that they have to keep it at the club), they all receive a replica Masters trophy as a part of their winning haul.

This is nothing new to Woods, who has now won five Masters titles in his career. His latest might have been his best yet, given what he had to overcome the past several years. He entered the final day two behind 54-hole leader Francesco Molinari, and he tied him for the lead after Molinari hit into the water on 12 and made double bogey. Woods’ birdie on 15 three holes later gave him the solo lead, and another birdie on 16 and bogey on 18 gave him a one-stroke victory and his 15th major title.

“It’s got to be right up there, right with all the things that I’ve battled through,” he said afterward. “Just was able to be lucky enough and fortunate enough to be able to do this again. It’s ironic that I’m given a chance to play golf again, and lo and behold, I won a tournament coming from behind, which I had not done for the first 14. So it’s just amazing.”
