Masters 2019: Four ways you can get into the Masters for free

There are a lot of people who have never made it to Augusta National for the Masters. It’s a bucket list location, and unless you’re well connected, you’re stuck applying for Masters tickets every year through their online lottery. Or so you thought! There are actually a few ways to get into the Masters for free.

Let’s start with the obvious one…

Become a golf writer!

While many golf media members get credentialed to cover the event at no cost, the event has a particularly stringent approval rating on those week-long media badges. However, you can still get there by becoming a member of the Golf Writers of America Association. Each year, the GWAA hosts an annual meet up for its members at Augusta National on the Wednesday prior to the event. Even if you’re not credentialed to cover the Masters, you can still tout a Wednesday ticket into the grounds. Enjoy the Par-3 Contest!

Become a golf pro!

PGA of America members are some of the most underappreciated people in the game, but thankfully the Masters takes care of them. PGA Professionals are allotted one ticket for every round of the Masters each year. Does it get any better than that?

Become a superintendent!

Members of the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America get a similar deal to that of PGA of America members. From their perspective, there is plenty to be learned watching the greatest players in the world take on one of the toughest courses in the world.

Work there!

More than 700 volunteers grace the property each year (and hundreds of others apply for jobs and get paid for the week). They play an integral role in helping escort players, answer questions, etc. And reportedly, once you volunteer once, you’re likely to be invited back again next year. Volunteers also have a decent chance of earning their way into a round as well, during Appreciation Day in May. Get to work!
