Jack and Barbara Nicklaus, in conjunction with the PGA Tour, have launched a campaign that calls on the golf community to “Play Yellow” to raise money for children’s hospitals. The goal of the initiative is to raise $100 million for children’s hospitals over the next five years.

The Nicklaus’s have been active in their support of children’s hospitals for many years, working closely with Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals by helping fund pediatric care that is not covered by insurance programs. Now, the Nicklaus family and its group of funding partners are asking the golf world to help out in the cause to raise money for these pediatric care programs via the Play Yellow campaign.

Along with the PGA Tour, some of Jack and Barbara Nicklaus’ initial funding partners in the Play Yellow campaign include Callaway, TaylorMade, the Players Championship, and the TPC Network. Initial outreach for campaign funding began earlier this year.

“There isn’t a higher calling than helping a child in need,” Barbara Nicklaus said in a statement.

Play Yellow originates from the yellow shirts that the Golden Bear often wore in the final round of tournaments in honor of Craig Smith, the son of a close friend who was fighting bone cancer. Craig died in 1971 at the age of 13.

Participants can join the Nicklaus’s by donating $18 for 18 holes at playyellow.org. They are also encouraged to wear yellow on the golf course and post about it with the hashtag #ShareWhyYouPlayYellow, create a Facebook fundraiser for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, or participate in any of the corporate partner funding campaigns by buying a product that gives back to the cause.

Nicklaus Companies and GOLF.com are operated by the same holding company, 8AM Golf.
