A day after cameras caught him striking the practice green with his putter, Bryson DeChambeau issued an apology on Twitter Friday morning. The statement came in advance of his second round of the WGC-Mexico at Golf Club de Chapultepec.
“I want to apologize to my fans, fellow players and the staff at Chapultepec for my actions following the round yesterday. I am an extremely passionate player and I am always working on ways to be better,” he wrote.
“I am certainly not perfect but I respect the grounds staff and the game of golf and am focused on working harder on this just like I do on my golf game.”

The apology came on the heels of DeChambeau’s opening-round, four-over 75. He lost 3.7 strokes to the field putting, second-worst in the field. The incident, which happened on the practice green, was captured in the background of a SkySports broadcast.

DeChambeau, ever a late-night tinkerer, didn’t let the poor putting day go easily. He stuck around late into the night working on a fix for day two.
The grind never sleeps.
