Jordan Spieth holed out from 14 feet to end his day at the Genesis Open on Sunday at Riviera Country Club, but little went his way before that.
Spieth made a quadruple bogey, triple bogey and double bogey en route to signing for a 10-over 81, the 25-year-old’s highest score in relation to par in his pro career. It’s the second-highest score of his pro career.
Spieth was in contention early in the tournament but fell off the pace in his final round. After opening with a birdie on the par-5 1st, he made double on the 2nd, bogey on the 3rd, double on the 5th and bogey on the 8th to turn in 41.
The worst yet came on the iconic short par-4 10th hole. His drive went into the greenside bunker, but he blasted out over the green and into another bunker. It took him four more shots to get out from there and he two-putted for a quadruple bogey 8. He parred the final eight holes.
Spieth lost 3.607 strokes to the field on the greens in his final round, which ranked last in the field.
It’s just the third time in Spieth’s pro career he’s failed to break 80. He also shot 82 in the third round of the 2013 Memorial and 80 in the third round of the 2014 Tour Championship.
Spieth, who was one off the lead with an opening-round 64, still hasn’t registered a top 10 since the 2018 British Open at Carnoustie.
