Lucy Li among players committed to first-ever Augusta National Women’s Amateur

January 22, 2019

The field for the inaugural Augusta National Women’s Amateur is almost complete.

Invitations for the event were sent out earlier this month, and Augusta National revealed 66 confirmed participants on Tuesday. Six spots have yet to be finalized. The complete field will be 72 players.

“Receiving an invitation to the Augusta National Women’s Amateur is representative of a remarkable amateur career, and so much more,” said Fred Ridley, the chairman of Augusta National Golf Club and the Masters, in the release. “We share in the excitement of the players, not only for what will unfold in April, but also for what their involvement will mean to increasing interest in the women’s game.”

The field will include women from dozens of different states and countries. Wake Forest senior Jennifer Kupcho is currently the top-ranked player in the field, sitting at No. 2 in the Women’s World Amateur Golf Ranking.

One of the youngest players in the field is Lucy Li, 16, who recently made news for appearing in a short spot for the Apple Watch. The USGA has since said it was looking into the incident to see if constitutes a violation of her amateur status. Li first grabbed the national spotlight when she qualified for the U.S. Women’s Open at age 11.

The first two rounds of the 54-hole ANWA will be staged at Champions Retreat Golf Club in Evans, Ga., on April 3-4, and the top 30 players will make the cut. The entire 72-player field will play a practice round at Augusta National on April 5, and the top 30 will play the final round at Augusta on April 6. That round will be broadcast from 12-3 p.m. ET on NBC Sports.

Tickets are sold out, and none will be available at the gates. The current field, as well as qualification guidelines, is below.
