GOLF 2020 Fall Style Guide: 4 summery-fall looks perfect for the course

Christian Hafer

Welcome to GOLF’s 2020 Style Guide. Our Ashley Mayo and Christian Hafer put together their go-to looks based off their favorite items coming to market right now. So as we head toward crisp fall mornings and chilly winter rounds, these pieces will help you look cool, play confidently and feel like yourself. Check out more of our picks in GOLF’s 2020 Style Guide here, and visit GOLF’s Pro Shop here.

You know that time of year when it’s still warm, but fall is just around the corner? These are the perfect outfits to wear on those kinds of days.

The Outfit: A look like this proves you don’t have to wear loud patterns to make a statement. The drawstring, elastic waistband on the Linksoul Drifter pants ($80) demands an untucked polo, and we opted to pair it with the athletic comfort of Lululemon’s Evolution polo ($98). The grey-on-grey ensemble allowed us to be a little more outgoing with our accessories, which is why we rounded out the outfit with Imperial’s fun terry cloth Sauciest Sauce visor ($30) and Asher’s canary glove ($24).

The Takeaway: It’s a lot easier (and generally less expensive) to make a statement with your accessories than it is with your polo or trousers.

The Outfit: The Jonnie-O Willis polo ($89) is clearly a statement piece, and Delanie Walker proves you can be big and pull off a bold, eye-catching pattern. We opted to surround that polo with solid-colored basics — Malbon’s navy “Team Buckets” snapback cap ($42); a pair of navy FootJoy Performance lightweight shorts ($78); a red LEN Lifestyle stone-washed ostrich belt ($575); and white Adidas Code Chaos shoes ($150)

The Takeaway: If you want to wear a bold pattern (and you absolutely should!), you need to ground it by wearing solid colors elsewhere.

The Outfit: You don’t often see a mesh six-panel cap, which is exactly why I love it as an eye-catching accessory. This Imperial “Pace of Play” mesh crown cap ($30) is a can’t-miss piece in all the right ways — its army green color will match almost any outfit, and its mesh material makes it pop. We paired the hat with a pair of classic Revo aviator sunglasses ($229) and a basic grey Reigning Champ polo ($100).

The Takeaway: Oftentimes, headwear is the last thing you think about when assembling your outfit, and that shouldn’t be the case. By going bold with your headwear, the pieces you wear around it can be safe, neutral and confidence-inspiring.

The Outfit: Did you ever think rompers would make their way to the course? When I saw this Puma Golf Twilight jumpsuit ($80) in a catalogue I gave it about a 5 percent chance of feeling and looking halfway decent. It proved me wrong in every way. Not only is it far more flattering than I’d ever imagined, it’s also one of the most comfortable items of clothing I’ve ever worn.

The Takeaway: It’s time to start introducing the pieces you enjoy wearing off the course into your golf wardrobe.
