U.S. Open 2019: Zach Johnson punishes himself with terrible jumping jacks after missing short putt

June 11, 2019

PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. — Zach Johnson has been a consistently good putter over the course of his PGA Tour career. He’s gone stretches where he’s been a great putter, and it was his performance on the greens that propelled him to his two major championships.

More recently, Zach Johnson’s putting has suffered: 60th last year and then down to 133rd so far this season. He’s switched around putters, but now, he’s trying something slightly unusual.

Here’s what I mean. On Monday ahead of the 2019 U.S. Open, Zach Johnson missed a short putt during a practice drill and slinked away to do 10 jumping jacks as a punishment. Brutal.

The video, first spotted by Golf Rabble is below.

The funniest (and also kind of saddest) moment is when he drops his putter to walk over for his punishment. He looks like a sad puppy that’s been told to go outside.

Poor guy, we all know that pain. We’re pulling for you, ZJ! Let’s hope he gets it straightened out sooner rather than later.
