Tiger Woods’ Pro-Am partner stole the show with his bizarre putting technique

August 15, 2019

There are a lot of strange putting methods out there, and truth be told, I’ve tried a lot of them. But I’ve never gone as far as Tiger Woods’ Pro-Am partner, Aaron Busse, who was full-on putting with a wedge throughout his round with Tiger Woods on Wednesday.

No, it wasn’t because he snapped his putter. He’s putting with his wedge by choice. According to Golf Channel’s Will Gray it started as a full-swing drill. Busse would practicing thinning wedges to prevent himself from coming across the ball, and somewhere along the line the drill made its way into his putting stroke.

There are a lot of benefits to using the old belly wedge when you’re just off the green. The ball comes off deadened of all spin and gets rolling quickly while still having enough juice to hop through the fringe, or any other obstacle that may be in its immediate vicinity.

I’ve heard of people using the wedge to putt with as a drill (a little bit), but never heard of anyone going so far as to actually put it into play. But hey, whatever works. As long as it obeys the two golden rules of putting: Face square at impact, and repeatability.
