This simple cheat sheet will tell you if your putter is fit correctly
EDITORS NOTE: As the Director of Fitting and Sales at True Spec, a company owned by GOLF.com’s parent company, Tim Briand has seen it all, and knows how a poorly-fit putter can be such a detriment to a players putting — and, by extension, their score. There’s a lot that goes into a proper putter fitting, and if you’ve never had one, don’t wait any longer to book one. In the meantime, if you’re looking for a quick cheat sheet, here’s something to get you started…
Too Flat
If the heel rises off the ground af- ter you’ve settled into your stance with your eyes over the ball, your putter is too flat. You’ll tend to aim right and strike the ball low on the face and out toward the heel.
Too Upright
If the toe lifts off the ground, it means your putter is too upright. The line on top of the putter will appear to point left, and you’ll tend to miss low on the face and toward the toe area of the putter.

Perfect Fit
You know your putter fits you when the sole of the club lies flat on the ground when your eyes are over the ball at setup. You’re ready to roll the ball off the sweet spot— just as the putter was designed!
