‘Best Of’ Review: The Ping Hoofer 14 golf bag is a neat-freak’s dream

January 27, 2020

Welcome to GOLF.com’s “Best Of” review series, where one of GOLF’s editors reviews interesting and helpful products from around the golf world. This week: The Ping Hoofer 14 stand bag.

Background

The Ping Hoofer has been a trusty go-to bag for avid golfers for years and now comes in several different variations, like the Hoofer 14, Hoofer Lite and Hoofer Monsoon, to name a few. And then there’s the re-designed Ping Hoofer 14 stand bag, which we’ll focus on today. Here’s what you need to know about it.

The Product

First off, why would this golf bag be good for neat freaks? We’re glad you asked. Let’s start with its 14-way organizer for your golf clubs — you’ll never struggle to find your 7-iron again — and we’ll get into pocket-mania later. The 14-way top has two larger holes on the top part of the bag and three rows of four slots each below it. And while that’ll keep your clubs in order, there’s also 12 pockets — yes, 12 — to perfectly organize all the gear you bring to the course. A pocket for your rangefinder? Check. For your water bottle? Check. Lots of other stuff? Check. But besides your organizational needs, there’s also a lot more to this bag. The SensorCool Technology shoulder straps will keep you comfortable and cool, and the bag also has a handy pass-thru cart strap to easily fasten on the back of your ride. The bag weighs 5.5 pounds and is made from 300D polyester.

Does it live up to the hype?

Yes, it does. As someone who is kind of a neat freak themselves, the 14-way top makes it easy enough to keep track of your sticks, but my favorite part is all the storage. Some people like to bring as little as possible to the golf course: a few balls, some tees, maybe a jacket and a pencil to keep score. Well, I’m not one of them. I always like to say that if I get lost in the woods with my golf bag I could survive for weeks. I’m always carrying more than I need, but I love it. I have my rain pants, a rain jacket, Advil, an extra glove, a tool to adjust my driver and plenty of balls, tees and markers (and maybe even a snack). So with all the stuff I’m carrying, being able to organize them properly is a life-saver. And lastly, there’s one other major plus with this bag, and it’s been the case with Ping Hoofers for years: it’s a comfortable carry.

The best golf bag for neat freaks

Ping Hoofer 14 stand bag

The Ping Hoofer 14 golf bag.

If you like to keep your golf bag as organized as your office desk, then the Ping Hoofer 14 is for you. Its 14-way top is a neat-freak’s dream, and you’ll find few bags in the industry that have more pockets — 12! — than the Ping Hoofer 14. That’s right, a dozen pockets, including one for a rangefinder, another that’s padded and can be used for your valuables, plus a water-bottle holder — it’s the little things that make certain stand bags stand out. The bag’s shoulder pads use SensorCool Technology to make your walk a comfortable and relaxing one.
