U.S. Open 2019: Have you seen the hidden pattern on Rory McIlroy’s golf shoes?

June 13, 2019

PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. — There have been a surprising number of style storylines at the 2019 U.S. Open, especially involving Nike’s shoes. Tiger Woods had a cool pair on ahead of the event, but he’s not the only one. Fellow Nike staffer Rory McIlroy’s golf shoes might be the slickest of the lot, because of the eye-catching design hidden within.

From this angle Rory’s shoes look pretty standard. A nice, straightforward, clean design.

But flip them over and that’s when the pattern reveals itself.

The shoes are part of Nike Golf’s new “No Denim Allowed” line, and the pattern features clamshells and flowers inspired by The Clambake. You can take a closer look here.

The pattern has been popping up all over the place at Pebble, not just on McIlroy’s shoes. Tommy Fleetwood played his Wednesday practice round in a hat sporting the design.
