With the help of Golf Laboratories’ swing-robot, GOLF’s 2023 ClubTest continues to deliver robotic testing insights on the newest equipment releases. We continue our fairway wood insights with the 5 models designed for low-heel misses. And click here to get the full rundown on every fairway wood for ’23.
The five fairway woods listed below would lead one to believe the low heel is a good spot to miss. Three fairway woods produced a slight uptick in distance out of the heel, which is a sign of a good club design. The tighter the carry distance deltas, the better.
But here’s the thing: Some fairway woods we tested had carry deltas between 15 to 23 yards when comparing geometric center and low heel. This is our way of saying not every fairway wood is a strong performer on heel misses.
The five fairways below are worth testing consideration if you struggle with a low-heel strike. (Note: The smaller the number, the less distance dropoff you’ll see on mishits at 95 mph.)
Tour Edge Exotics C723 FTS (+1.3 yards carry distance delta between low-heel and geometric center)
TaylorMade Stealth 2 (+0.8 yds)
Ping G430 Max (+0.6 yds)
Titleist TSR3 (-0.8 yds)
Cobra Aerojet (-1.1 yds)
