Obsession of the Week: Bill Murray’s quirky golf style

February 11, 2020

Welcome to a new column, Obsession of the Week, where we highlight one thing that caught our eye in golf over the weekend. Whether it’s Tiger’s shoes, Lexi’s headcover or a limited-edition Masters item, we’ll walk you through what it is and where you can get it. This week, we couldn’t stop staring at Bill Murray’s unique on-course style at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am.

The annual Tour stop at Pebble Beach is a sight for sore eyes. The rolling fairways and dramatic views from the oceanside holes, plus its long and incredible history is what makes golfers everywhere covet a round at Pebble.

And yet, despite those incredible views we found ourselves unable to tear our eyes away from something else on the course at Pebble: Bill Murray and his eccentric on-course style.

Ever since Caddyshack put him on the golf world’s map, Murray hasn’t been one to tone it down, especially when it comes to his on-course attire, which mostly comes from his William Murray golf apparel line. Last week at Pebble, camouflage was his pattern of choice throughout the week, including his Bunker Camo Boonie Hat.

This hat’s gray camo pattern is actually a great choice for the golfer that wants to try something new, but doesn’t want to go overboard. The grayscale color scheme tones down the pattern, and makes it easy to mix into any wardrobe. And as a bonus, the hat provides excellent protection from the sun throughout your round thanks to it’s wide-brimmed design.

Another thing that caught our eye about Murray’s golfwear was that he only wore button downs. Apparently, he has a preference for them over the traditional polo. We loved the Classic Button Down he wore under a plaid sweater vest because if you looked closely, the cuffs of his shirt matched the plaid in the vest. This little surprise helped tie the outfit together, and showed off the fact that the button down isn’t as plain as you thought.

Murray even paired his eccentric style with not one, but two G/FORE golf gloves to bring even more color into his already bright outift.
