Course Overview

Despite playing host to more U.S. Women’s Opens than any other course, Donald Ross’s third original design was often an afterthought for Pinehurst visitors. Then a 2017 restoration by Coore-Crenshaw disciple Kyle Franz injected new life into this overshadowed gem. Franz traded 11 acres of Bermuda rough for native hardpan, wiregrass and straw, widening the crested fairways that reward well-placed tee shots. The reboot also restored Ross’s bunkers and added subtle contours to greens that many consider the second best in town. Now deservedly known as a world-class design, Pine Needles is also more accessible and affordable than its more famous sibling.
