American Dunes

The only course in the country built to honor U.S. veterans. Jack Nicklaus donated his design fee, then transformed a run-of-the-mill wooded layout into a dramatic modern sandscape. Players face a variety of tee shots and elevation changes as they traverse waste areas to some of the most wildly varied greens Nicklaus and Co. has built. Proceeds go to help the families of fallen and disabled vets, and tributes to those who serve are woven into the playing experience here. All of which can sometimes make the great golf at American Dunes feel like a bit of an afterthought — and that’s a very good thing.
