Course Overview
Baxter Spann’s strategy and overall shaping of Black Mesa was clearly influenced by Mike Strantz’s wild and wonderful work at Tobacco Road. The word moonscape is commonly used when describing the natural surroundings here. Sandstone features framing the rippling fairways act more like large dunes than the rock outcroppings that they are. Being able to navigate and accurately judge the elevation changes is paramount to scoring. In the words of Spann, “We incorporated some hidden target areas and semi-blind uphill shots which will require some local knowledge and familiarity with the course to negotiate successfully.”
