Course Overview
If Picasso had devoted his Cubist phase to golf design, he might have wound up with something like this. From the mad-genius mind of the late Mike Strantz, Tobacco Road is both out-of-the-box and in-your-face, brimming with bold landforms, quirkily contoured greens and cavernous sandy wastes, on the wild ground of what was once a gravel mine. The par-5 1st sets the tone. Far from a gentle handshake, it’s more like a gut punch, requiring a tee shot between a pair of dunes that shroud much of the fairway, followed by another potential blind shot on your layup. On it goes from there, an uninterrupted thrill ride. Unsettling for some, invigorating for others, Tobacco Road has long polarized opinions. But the beauty of golf is its variety, and no one can deny that this course stands alone.
