The FedEx Cup Playoffs begin this week at the 2024 FedEx St. Jude Championship in Memphis, and we’re eyeing a former World No. 1 as our long shot to win. Here’s our long-shot pick, the FedEx St. Jude Championship odds, betting favorites and everything else you need to know.
FedEx St. Jude odds: Long-shot bet
For this week’s playoff-opener, we’re selecting Jason Day as our long shot with +5500 odds to win.
Day, a former World No. 1 and the 2015 PGA champion, has quietly put together a solid season in 2024. In 18 starts, he’s had four top-10 finishes and only three missed cuts.
And Day’s four top 10s this year do not include his most recent start at the 2024 Olympics at Le Golf National, where he finished T9. He’s safely 26th in the FedEx Cup standings heading into the week, but only safe for so long. Only the top 30 will make it to the Tour Championship, so Day has motivation to play well to remain in line for East Lake.
If you put $10 on Day to win and he comes through on Sunday, you’ll earn $550. For insurance, consider placing additional small bets on Day to finish top 10 and top 20.
Looking for more long-shot bets for the FedEx St. Jude Championship? This week’s honorable mentions are Akshay Bhatia (+8000) and Shane Lowry (+5000).
FedEx St. Jude Championship odds: The favorites
The playoffs have arrived, which means all the heavy hitters are in the field. That includes betting favorite and newly minted gold medalist Scottie Scheffler, who starts the week with +350 odds.
Xander Schauffele, who won two majors in 2024, comes in at +800, with Rory McIlroy rounding out the top three at +900.
