The PGA Championship uses a unique playoff format that’s different from the other three majors.

If more than two players are tied after 72 holes, they’ll use a three-hole aggregate to decide the winner. Right, that means no sudden death playoff.

For a playoff in the 2024 PGA Championship, if necessary, the players will play holes 13, 17 and 18 at Valhalla Golf Club. The lowest three-hole total wins. If there’s a tie after three holes they’ll move to sudden death and play Nos. 18, 13, 17 and 18, repeated.

Only five PGA Championships have needed the three-hole aggregate playoff, the first of which came at Valhalla in 2000, when Tiger Woods beat Bob May.

The last time the PGA Championship needed a playoff, Justin Thomas beat Will Zalatoris at the 2022 PGA Championship.
