With this being Arnold Palmer Invitational week, Brad Faxon had an Arnold Palmer story.
Faxon wasn’t playing, but he was announcing as part of the NBC/Golf Channel crew, and as Thursday’s broadcast of the first round started, announcer Steve Sands asked what impact Palmer had on Faxon. “A tremendous impact,” Faxon said. After graduating college, he moved to Orlando to be a member at Bay Hill, which hosts the API and where Palmer was the longtime proprietor. Faxon said he played in multiple events at the track.
He then said this:
“My rookie year, I played with Arnold at the Players, in the final round. It was such a thrill to get paired with him, to get called out on the first tee with him. Walking off the first green, he said to me: ‘Do you want to have a long career out here, son?’ He put his arm around me. I said, ‘Yes, sir.’ He goes, ‘Then you look people in the eye when you walk off the tee. You look them right in the eye.’ I’ll never forget. ‘There the reason why you have a job.’
“Boy, could we use that now.”
With that, here is a complete list of the 2024 Arnold Palmer Invitational payouts for all 58 players who made the cut. The total purse is $20 million.
