In last year’s FedEx Cup Playoffs, Rory McIlroy began the three-event series in sixth place. But by month’s end, the four-time major winner was hoisting his third-career FedEx Cup title.
At the beginning of this year’s playoffs, McIlroy was in second place, with one eye on his fourth championship and only Jon Rahm ranked above him. Rory made a run at the top spot in the standings at last week’s FedEx St. Jude Championship, but he eventually finished one shot out of a playoff.
Despite Rahm’s poor showing, McIlroy’s T3 finish wasn’t enough to move him into the No. 1 position. But he’ll have another go at it this week at the BMW Championship, and it all starts on Thursday.
McIlroy tees off for the opening round at 1:10 p.m. ET alongside Lucas Glover, who has won the last two events to move into fourth place in the standings.
You can stream Thursday’s first round via PGA Tour Live on ESPN+ beginning at 9:15 a.m. ET or watch the action on Golf Channel starting at 2 p.m. ET.
