One player was wearing a microphone during Thursday’s first round of the Travelers Championship. Wesley Bryan allowed viewers to clearly hear his conversations.
One lake apparently was, too. The water to the left of the 15th green at TPC River Highlands allowed viewers to clearly hear an expiration.
Justin Thomas had gotten his round back to even par after a birdie on 14, and he was standing over an 8-footer on 15 for another birdie. He putted, almost immediately knew he missed it right and quickly finished for par. The ball was finished, too.
In one motion, Thomas reached into the cup with his right hand, stood up, pivoted and tossed it into the air and directly at the water.
KER. PLUNK.
“Oh, what a sound effect,” Golf Channel analyst Nick Faldo said.
“Great work from the aqua audioman. Fantastic.”
Announcer Bob Papa asked if the water was mic’d.
“We got a sailman in his scuba gear in the pond, just in case,” Faldo said.
