Jon Rahm says this part of Tiger Woods’ game is still unrivaled (and it’s not even close)

February 11, 2020

Tiger Woods may not dominate the PGA Tour like he did in his early-2000s peak, but his game still commands an immense amount of respect from his fellow pros.

In an interview on Subpar, a new weekly GOLF.com show hosted by former PGA Tour pro Colt Knost and his golf pal Drew Stoltz, Jon Rahm gushed about Woods’ form, specifically Woods’ still-awe-inspiring precision with his irons.

“He’s still the best, by far,” said Rahm, the world’s No. 3-ranked player. “Anytime we go do a photo shoot with TaylorMade, he whoops our a— with irons. It’s not even close.”

Rahm recalled a shoot at The Floridian last year when he, Woods and handful of other TaylorMade staff players were firing balls to a couple of different flags on a par 3. Rahm said the variety of shot shapes and ball flights Woods exhibited left his peers gobsmacked.

“You can’t compare,” Rahm said. “None of us get close.”  Watch that portion here:

The numbers back Rahm up: Woods is 3rd on Tour in SG: Tee-to-Green and 5thin SG: Approach the Green. In recent months, few, if any, players have had such command over their games.

In his revealing, hour-long interview with Knost and Stoltz, Rahm opened up on a wide range of topics, from his emotional singles win over Woods at the 2018 Ryder Cup; to his efforts to tame his fiery personality; to how he met his new bride, Kelley Cahill. Rahm even shows off his considerable rapping skills. Check out that performance here:

Subpar, which will pair colorful segments with Knost and Stoltz with in-depth sit-down interviews with the game’s biggest personalities, will be available across GOLF.com’s platforms every Tuesday. Future guests include U.S. Open champion Gary Woodland and the larger-than-life Thai star, Kiradech Aphibarnat.
