That time Antonio Brown hung out in Arnold Palmer’s living room

September 9, 2019

Antonio Brown’s trade from the Los Angeles Raiders to the New England Patriots — and all the craziness that surrounded it — dominated the news cycle over the weekend. It was hard to browse the web or watch TV without coming upon a headline about the star wide receiver. But if you thought you knew everything there is to know about AB, here’s a tidbit only the most devout NFL fans would know: AB once hung out with AP, as in Arnold Palmer.

Brown, who formerly played for the Pittsburgh Steelers, and Palmer met in 2016 just months before Palmer’s death. As a Pennsylvania native, Brown was familiar with Palmer’s lore.

According to the Pennsylvania Patriot News, Palmer invited Brown to his house in Latrobe, Pa., while Brown was in town for Steelers training camp. Brown said he and Palmer talked history in The King’s living room.

Months later, after Palmer’s death, Brown sported these custom cleats as a tribute to Arnie during a Sunday-night game against the Kansas City Chiefs.

“We relish those moments and those opportunities that you get to be with people,” Brown said. “A guy like Arnold, his legacy and what he meant, not only to the world but to Latrobe, PA, Pennsylvania — his legacy will live long. He’s an inspiring guy.”
