Brandel Chamblee reminds golf world (again) that he still has serious game
Golf fans who tuned into the 2019 Open Championship at Royal Portrush this past week saw Brandel Chamblee break down the action on Golf Channel and NBC. Next, they’ll see him play some competitive golf this week.
The Golf Channel/NBC analyst qualified on Monday for the second straight year in the Senior Open Championship, which will take place this week at iconic Royal Lytham & St. Annes Golf Course.
Chamblee, 57, was one of over 500 golfers to play in a Monday qualifier at four locations across Lancashire, England, with only 49 spots up for grabs. Chamblee shot a one-under 72 and tied for eighth out of 133 players to earn his spot in the field. Not quite as good as the two-under 69 he carded at last year’s qualifier, but good enough.
“I’m delighted to have made it [to Royal Lytham],” Chamblee told Golf Channel. “This was a pretty stressful day. Last year I felt much more comfortable and confident about my game. I didn’t touch a club last week.”

At last year’s Senior Open Championship, Chamblee missed the cut after rounds of 77 and 75. He played earlier this year on the PGA Tour Champions circuit at the Principal Charity Classic and finished T74.
