U.S. Open 2019: Here’s the winner’s payout for the six U.S. Opens at Pebble Beach
The winner of the 2019 U.S. Open at Pebble Beach will walk away with a $2.25 million check. But the winner’s payout from the national championship hasn’t always been so lucrative.
When Pebble hosted its first U.S. Open in 1972, Jack Nicklaus earned $30,000 for his third U.S. Open title. The winner’s check doubled to $60,000 when Tom Watson captured his only U.S. Open title in 1982 at Pebble Beach.
The winner’s payout more than quadrupled to $275,000 when Tom Kite won his only major championship, the 1992 U.S. Open. When Tiger Woods won the 2000 U.S. Open at Pebble Beach, his first of three Open titles, he earned $800,000 for beating the field by a record-number 15 strokes.
It wasn’t until the fifth U.S. Open at Pebble Beach in 2010 when the winner cashed a seven-figure check. The winner, Graeme McDowell, earned $1.35 million for his only major championship victory.
This year marks the first time the U.S. Open winner at Pebble Beach will clear more than $2 million.

The winner at Pebble Beach this week will also receive a 10-year exemption to the U.S. Open, a five-year exemption on the PGA Tour, and five-year exemptions into the Masters, PGA Championship and British Open. Quite a haul.
