Here’s why a legendary Arnold Palmer quote is making a sudden comeback
He made the game what it is today, and it’s no surprise a legendary Arnold Palmer quote is buzzing once again.
If you’ve been watching the NCAA Championships over the past week, you may have noticed the effects of a golf swing revolution that’s taking hold. Armed with the latest ball and club-tracking technology, golf teachers understand the golf swing at a more intimate level unlike ever before. They’ve been on a quest to separate style from substance, and as players chase more distance, the combination of the two means golf swings have gotten both more powerful and more eye-catching.
Don’t believe us? Then just look at the up-and-comers gracing the top of the leaderboard at the NCAA Golf Championships. You have the 10-finger, cross-handed swinger Patrick Welch, who finished T11. Ryan Frazer of Agora Golf captured the below video of Welch’s unique technique,
Yea Matt Wolf was amazing, but I'm still blown away by University of Oklahoma Patrick Welch's 10-finger cross-handed grip and swing. Shot 75-69-72-75 and finished T11 pic.twitter.com/vUsYFX2lxp

And then, of course, the two men who finished first and second on the individual leaderboard, Oklahoma State’s Matt Wolff and George Southern’s Steven Fisk.
Thanks to Andy Wada for so much of this great footage. Follow him on Twitter for great updates from the world of college golf:

I can’t even imagine how many times these players were told they needed to change their swings, but they stuck with them, perfected what they had, and built functional, powerful, and repeatable swings as a result. And along the way, they’ve inspired hoards of golfers among the amateur ranks to perfect their own, imperfect golf swings. They’re doing so by quoting a famous phrase by Arnold Palmer — “swing your swing” — which has become a rallying cry for golfers everywhere.
“Swing your swing,” Palmer said. “Not some idea of a swing. Not a swing you saw on TV. Not that swing you wish you had. No, swing your swing. Capable of greatness. Prized only by you. Perfect in its imperfection. Swing your swing. I know I did.”
