PGA Championship 2019: Golf fans roast Chamblee after Brooks Koepka’s course-record 63

May 16, 2019

FARMINGDALE, N.Y. — Golf Channel analyst Brandel Chamblee never shies away from speaking his mind, and even if you don’t always agree with his point, there’s no doubting the research he puts toward his opinions. But on Thursday, he was on the wrong end of some snark from the Golf Twittersphere.

It all started earlier this year, when Chamblee laid into Koepka for shedding 24 pounds and jeopardizing his career for “vanity reasons.” Brooks responded with a runner-up finish at the Masters, and things between the two quieted down. But the budding rivalry re-emerged last week when Chamblee said that there were only two players capable of challenging Tiger Woods’ renewed stronghold over the game.

“In the aggregate, you’d have Dustin and Rory who are the likely two who could hang with him,” he said.

Paraphrasing Chamblee, Brooks didn’t make the cut because he had yet to prove with his overall scoring average he could match Tiger, DJ and Rory week-in, week-out, and that he needed more evidence to the contrary.

Brooks’ response was as followed:

Fast-forward once again to Thursday at the 2019 PGA Championship. Brooks opened with a bogey-free 63 and flew into the lead at the 2019 PGA Championship, leaving in its wake a fury of gloating Twitter reactions from golf fans.

Chamblee took it all in stride and was in good spirits about it, re-iterating his original points:

But that didn’t stop Golf Twitter:
