Because your basic golf cart is so yesterday, electric-vehicle manufacturers have started getting pretty innovative when it comes to ways to get you and your bag from one hole to another during a round.

GolfBoards — the easy-to-ride electric vehicles that operate like surf and skateboards — are well known and popular, and golf scooters have also started to make inroads. But the latest player to enter the game is an ultra-cool motor bike produced by Sun Mountain Motor Sports, an affiliate of golf bag, golf push cart and golf outerwear company, Sun Mountain Sports.

The FinnCycle by Sun Mountain is an electric, bag-toting scooter (with a more macho, motorcycle look) that’s a ton of fun to ride and allows you to get in 18 before breakfast. In fact, the ability to play sub-two-hour rounds is one of the FinnCycle’s selling points. It tops out at about 15 MPH (similar to a standard golf cart), with a lithium battery that lasts for more than two rounds.

As you can see from the photo above, your bag is secured right to the frame of the bike.

The secret behind those super-fast rounds? The single-rider design. FinnCycle can help players get around swiftly by encouraging ready golf. When you are able to go directly to your own ball instead of detouring to your cart mate’s, your round will naturally be faster.

Motorbikes and scooters are the new fast and fun way to play golf

The FinnCycle has both front and rear suspension to ensure a comfortable ride. A hydraulic disc brake brings you to an easy stop.

When you rent a FinnCycle at a golf facility, you can operate it via a proprietary app that unlocks the cycle for use and collects the usage fee — all on your smart phone.

Now you can ride to the course and play on the course in the same vehicle. The introduction of motorbikes and scooters are responsible for making that happen. At PGA Show Demo Day, a pair of these exciting electric rides turned the heads of all that walked by.

Sun Mountain’s FinnCycle

Sun Mountain is well-known for their golf bags, and soon you’ll be able to toss them on the company’s own motorbike. Later in 2019, Sun Mountain will release the FinnCycle. Bags are secured right on the frame of the bike and it’s large enough to hold just about anything smaller than a staff bag. It has a minimalist design that’s reminiscent of a bike you probably grew up riding.

The FinnCycle maxes out at 15 mph. While that might be in line with your standard golf cart, there’s just a different open-air feeling that makes all the difference. One attention to detail that caught my eye on the FinnCycle is its driver head kickstand.

It’s an easy rider that I would love to take out for a solo twilight round.

Phat Scooter

If a standard-looking bike isn’t your thing, a Phat Scooter might be more your style. This ride resembles a highway cruiser you see doing low speeds with its fat tires. But the only cruising the Phat Scooter will be doing is right passed your golf cart at speeds up to 20 mph. It’s even street legal!

Unlike the FinnCycle, your bag goes on the back like a traditional golf cart and rides like a bike-scooter hybrid. “It’s like riding a couch” is the testimony Tour pro Pat Perez gave the Phat Scooter, and I don’t think he’s too far off with that statement.

This dual-purpose scooter is a great way to get around on and off the course.

Next time your significant other asks where you’re going, just tell them you’re going for a bike ride. It won’t be a total lie…

Sun Mountain is making it even easier to stay connected while you’re on the course.

The company announced that two of its top-selling golf bags will soon be “supercharged” — that is, equipped with two external USB ports that connect to portable power packs. One of the two USB ports is “rapid-charging,” meaning it can recharge multiple devices at the same time.   

The Supercharged C-130 cart bag will be available in June with a retail price of $279.99, while the Supercharged 4.5 carry bag will debut in August for $249.99. Both bags will be available in three colorways: black, navy/white/red, and desert camo.

The development comes at a time when more and more golfers are interested in streaming content throughout their rounds, whether its music, GPS-based yardage apps, or simply internet browser windows to check scores and news updates.
