Bettinardi is releasing its third collaboration with Buffalo Trace Distillery brands, rooted in a shared respect for American craftsmanship, patience in the process and attention to detail.

The third installment of the collaboration celebrates the legacy of W.L. Weller wheated bourbon. I don’t personally drink much, but if I do, it’s to sip on a nice bourbon or whiskey while hanging out with close friends. When we’re feeling particularly fancy, Weller is the choice. I don’t typically get riled up about limited edition releases, but this one really tugged at me as a reminder of memories with close friends around campfires, and nights that lasted too long but that I’d never trade back.

It’s no secret that the folks over at Bettinardi go above and beyond for their HIVE releases, and this one is certainly no exception. The idea with releases like this from Bettinardi is to draw parallels between the two collaborators. Weller uses wheat rather than rye as a flavoring grain, which gives it a much softer, smoother drinking profile similar to the one-piece milled philosophy at Bettinardi that creates a nice soft, smooth feel off the collaboration release.

Putters

“This collaboration with W.L. Weller continues a relationship we value greatly with the Buffalo Trace Distillery team,” said Sam Bettinardi, President of Bettinardi Golf. “Weller’s history and approach to craftsmanship mirror the way we think about product design — taking the time to do things the right way.”

I like that this release feels very simple. Bettinardi didn’t go overboard with graphics or crazy sole work. It looks like a simple Queen Bee #6-esque design inspiration, with the classic Weller brand text on the sole and very cool milling pattern that uses the Weller ‘W’ as its pattern. It’s topped off with a soft and subtle bronze/gold finish with red accents that remind you of opening a brand new bottle of Weller to enjoy with friends.

Each putter features custom design elements influenced by W.L. Weller’s wheated bourbon legacy, with finishes and detailing intended to reflect the warmth, depth and character associated with the brand. The collaboration extends beyond putters with a complete lineup of coordinating accessories, including a ball marker, divot tool and assorted headcovers.

Bettinardi’s latest BB Series isn’t just a new putter — it’s a production line realignment.

While the Queen B series is the brand’s aesthetics-focused line and the low-torque Antidote line focuses on innovation, the new 2026 BB Series combines the two. The new line, which absorbs the previous Studio Stock and INOVAI lines, introduces a Variable Depth Flymill (VDF) face and a striking Savannah Blue PVD finish.

“Our focus was to preserve what has always defined the BB linen — classic shapes, responsive feedback and our one-piece milling — while advancing the technology that influences performance,” Bettinardi Golf founder Bob Bettinardi said in a release. “The new VDF Face is a meaningful step forward.”

What’s actually new with Bettinardi 2026 BB Series — and why you should care

Wanting something ‘beyond feel’

While Bettinardi’s BB Series remains a traditional one-piece milling design, the company has added some innovation to the face.

The new VDF face features nine distinct milling zones, each individually tuned to provide optimal energy transfer.

“Consumers were getting so smart, and I think we got to do something beyond feel,” Bettinardi President Sam Bettinardi told GOLF. “Through a lot of extensive R&D … we developed the VDF face, which I feel like is a story that not a lot of putter companies have been talking about, which has to do with distance control.”

The milling is deeper in the center of the face for the best feel, but shallower away from the center to preserve ball speed on misshits. That leads to far more consistent distance control.

Testing by Bettinardi using Quintic shows the new milling pattern produced 30 percent less variation in effective distance and over 40 percent less variation in topspin across the top, middle and lower positions of the face compared to a traditional Flymill, like the previous BB series putters.

What this all means is that whether you strike it on the center of the face or misshit it, your ball is going to travel the same distance.

“I feel like this is a great product range in the BBs,” Bettinardi said, “with the variety in heads that we have to be able to have golfers closer to the hole, which at the end of the day is going to eliminate three putts.”

Not rushing the finish

The new Savannah Blue PVD finish is eye-catching and something you might see offered at an aftermarket custom shop, rather than a stock OEM offering.

Bettinardi said the final version of the finish actually came down to the wire, as he wanted to be something that was just right to inspire confidence over the ball and have mass appeal.

“It takes a lot of effort, and there’s a lot of tweaking, and there’s a lot of finessing and massaging, so to speak, to get the line right,” Bettinardi said. “We had picked a PVD type of finish in the durability type, and the color just kept, kept coming out too light.

“We put the pedal down, call it in May, June, July, to where we finally were very happy with what we have today with the new Savannah Blue.”

Streamlining production lines

With the introduction of the Antidote line of low-torque putters in the fall of 2024, Bettinardi had five different production lines going with their Signature Queen B series, the BB, Studio Stock and INOVAI lines.

With the new BB Series, some of the Studio Stock and INOVAI shapes are featured in the lineup, giving the lineup great depth to complement the remaining Queen B and Antidote lines.

“We know we’re going to have the Antidote as our zero-torque, our Queen B as our aesthetic charm and our BB as our classics,” Bettinardi said. “So now I feel like we have really three clean lines … of telling the Bettinardi story.”

My take: Innovation meets looks

Bettinardi may have been previously seen as just eye candy for your bag, but they’ve recently been pushing a lot of innovation in the putter space.

They were one of the first major putter makers after L.A.B. to enter the low-torque putter space in 2024, and now they’re rethinking what it means to have a milled face putter.

The new VDF milling actually takes the milled feel that so many players love and enhances it to help with distance control.

In my own testing, I found the VDF mill to be much softer than the flymill on the previous-generation BB28SBS, but I still got the feedback I was looking for. When I did make a bad stroke, I was still surprised to see the ball reach the target.

And with the new Savannah Blue PVD, you can game one of these putters and still have it be the centerpiece of your bag.

The Honeycomb milling on the Queen B series will always be Bettinardi’s bread and butter, but this new VDF has instantly become my favorite face they offer.

Paired with the new finish, the new BB series is a complete lineup where function meets form beautifully.

You can read more about my experience below, but I thought this would be a good time to revisit my putter fitting and how it’s helped me.

Since that fitting that saw me end up in a Bettinardi BB-28SB, a face-balanced blade putter I thought would never be a good fit, putting has gone from potentially one of the weakest parts of my game to a strength. I feared a left miss and now I can feel like I release the putter head freely and know it will start on my intended line.

As you’ll read below, Tom Sopic, Studio B’s lead hive concierge, put me through my paces hitting putts and found that the high-toe-flow putter I was using was causing me to put more hook spin on the ball than forward roll, which was causing my left miss.

Since then, I’ve felt like I’m making one or two — or more — 10+ putts a round, and I made it to the finals of my club championship. This summer was by far my best on the greens and can only lead to bigger things over the next few years as soon as I get the rest of my game in order.

I got fit for a putter at Bettinardi’s Studio B. The result shocked me

As I’ve chronicled my own golf journey through gear, I’ve started to realize that I’ve fallen into some of the bad habits that we here at GOLF preach against.

Take my putting.

Not until I was fit for a putter at Bettinardi’s Studio B did I become aware of the putting stroke and putter I should be using.

Today, I’m in a putter type I could never have imagined using, but I felt and saw instant results with how easy it was to get the ball rolling end-over-end on my intended line.

For those who have been hesitant to get fit for a putter, this article is for you.

Some background on my putters

All my life, I have used a Ping Anser-style blade putter, which was the putter type that came in my first U.S. Kids’ Golf set. The first Scotty Cameron my dad cut down for me was a 2005 Studio Style Newport 2.5 with a GSS insert.

That putter has a flow neck and a ton of toe hang, which I always thought matched my stroke because I always thought about the putting stroke as an arc and opening the face going back was the easiest way to return it to square.

In 2010, the first golf club I ever bought myself was a 1999 Scotty Cameron Teryllium II Newport 2 for a $150 on eBay, and I had it refinished. This putter has a plumber’s neck, but I was going for feel and I didn’t know anything about putter fittings at the time.

Putters

I kept using that putter for 13 years before a newer Teryllium version came out, this time as a wide-body blade and a high-toe flow short slant neck. I still thought my stroke matched best with a lot of toe flow so I bagged one and never thought twice about it.

I did get fit for this putter but after I already had purchased it. I got fit to the putter, rather than finding a putter that was fit for me.

But, as these things tend to go, I was wrong!

My Bettinardi putter fitting

I was excited to go to Bettinardi’s Studio B in Oak Brook, Ill., just outside of Chicago; it would be my first putter fitting at which we’d start from scratch, and I was going in with a completely open mind.

From the moment we started rolling putts, I realized something was about to change.

“Does this green have a bit of a left break?” I asked, innocently, thinking I was hitting good putts.

“It actually has more of a right break, if anything,” said Tom Sopic, Studio B’s lead hive concierge and my fitter for the day.

Using a high-tech camera system in the fitting bay and Quintic putting analysis, Sopic uncovered a huge revelation about my putting stroke.

He didn’t even need to see the video to confirm it.

“Just watching you hit a couple of putts during your warm-up, I could see that it was more of a pendulum-style stroke,” he said. “The easiest way we saw it was that your takeaway when we came to the apex of your stroke, the pocket of your putter was dead straight behind the golf ball.”

On the video screen, Tom showed me that my putter face stays almost square for most of the stroke, as opposed to opening on the way back and closing on the way through as it would for an arc. Because the face naturally wants to close on the way through, it created a hitch in my putting stroke that would mostly cause me to strike the ball on the heel and pull it.

We could also see that my eyes were about 2 to 2.5 golf-ball widths inside the heel of the putter, which was because my putter was long (36″).

“A lot of times when people are fitting into toe hang putters, they recommend your eyes fall inside the heel, which we do as well,” Sopic said. “But that distance away from it, with you being a pendulum-style putter, is going to create a lot of exaggerated arc that isn’t there naturally.”

Gear

All of this was causing my golf ball to launch with almost as much side spin as forward roll. The Quintic analysis showed my forward spin at a 51 RPM average and the side spin at 45 RPM. Ideally, Sopic said, you want three times as much forward spin as side spin. It wasn’t consistent, either, because my highest side spin was up to 75 RPM of hook spin!

The result of my putter fitting

We stayed in a blade-style putter because, while I believe a mallet putter is more forgiving, I’ve never found one I like looking at. I’ve gone to wider-blades to give me more forgiveness and that seems to do the trick.

Our winning putter was three degrees flatter (67˚) than my gamer (as the toe of my putter was still coming in high), and a half inch shorter (35.5″), which brought my eyes right over the heel of the putter. To me, it really didn’t feel that much different, which was what Sopic was going for. My spine angle didn’t change when addressing the shorter putter.

The real shock to me was the head and neck, which was a Bettinardi BB-28 Slot Back, a nearly face-balanced putter with a single-bend shaft. I had never used any putter without a hosel before.

Interestingly, the BB-28 has an identical offset (3/4ths of a shaft) to my previous gamer, which, despite the absence of a hosel, looked completely different; however, lining up to a putt felt almost the same. That’s no coincidence, Sopic said, because right-eye dominant players, like myself, who like to use sight lines on the flange to line up their putts, tend to also prefer less offset.

But the results on the Quintic were clear. With six putts, my forward rolls averaged 60 RPMs of forward spin and just 12 RPMs of sidespin, well above the 3-to-1 minimum ratio.

The cool part of the Studio B experience was that a new putter was built to my exact specs right there for me, and I was able to go out and play with it immediately that afternoon.

I won’t lie and say there wasn’t an adjustment period, especially considering I’ve been scared of pulling short putts for the better part of six months now, but by my third round with this putter (and even the back nine that day) it was clear that this putter fit me better than any other I’d had before.

What this putter fitting really tells us

We could go on and on about how this has really changed how I think about my putting, or how it’s going to improve my game, but the reality is simple:

You need to be fit for your putter, not to your putter! There’s a difference.

It also comes down to more than just specs. Different putter shapes, faces, necks, etc., all do different things. I could bend and cut my old putter to meet the same specs as this new one, and it still wouldn’t work as well because of the toe flow.

So my suggestion: Go get fit and then buy a putter; your scores will thank you later. It will cost you only about $100 to $150 ($100 at Bettinardi’s Studio B), which really isn’t that much when you’re already spending $400-$500 on a new putter. Think of it as an investment for all the money it will end up winning you on the greens!

On Tuesday, Bettinardi unveiled two new shapes in its Antidote series of putters, which are low-torque, toe-up designs from the Bettinardi family. The trend has boomed over the last two years and doesn’t seem to be slowing down, so Bettinardi is doubling down with shape offerings by introducing the new SB3 fang style and SB5 half-moon style designs. 

I had a chance to get over to Bettinardi Studio B in Oakbrook, Ill., to actually get fit for the best option for my game and both putters surprised me. Surprisingly, the SB5 would have been the last one in the lineup I would have reached for, but it became my personal favorite. 

The SB3 has a fang-style design but it’s a compact look at address, and behind the ball the two-tone design really shines in its beauty. The two white lines that adorn the fangs of the putter in the flange area are easy to utilize for proper aim, and my favorite part about both new models is that although the hosel is set back of the top line, they made it its own section so the top line is still nice and thin.

Having a top-line design like this feels to me like you can use both edges (front and back) to help verify perpendicular alignment of the face to your intended putting line.

When you flip the SB3 over to the sole you’ll see a clean sole plate design with cutouts in the 303SS backplate. That tells you that Bettinardi is trying to move the CG as far forward as the design will allow while maintaining the low-torque properties they are after, as well as the sound and feel that players expect from Bettinardi. Fang designs like this are really tricky to nail down the sound of because the fangs can act like tuning forks, but Bettinardi nailed it.

As you make impact with the ball you get a nice thud-like click off the face that gives you immediate feedback without feeling too soft. In my testing so far, and verified by my fitter Nick at Bettinardi Studio B, the SB3 is just a touch firmer and louder than the SB5, which brings us back to my choice in the Antidote lineup. 

As I mentioned above, I’m not much of a half-moon mallet shape kind of player, but the feel from the SB5 is probably the best Bettinardi I have ever rolled. It’s a nice compressed thud off the face with just a slight click that gives you lots of confidence in the roll off the face. It gives enough feedback into the hands that you can feel your off-center strikes but feels pure as a well struck muscleback when you strike the putter outside the middle. Both putters feature Bettinardi’s FIT Face, which provides just enough ball speed for the putter to help you out without feeling like you’ve lost control. Roll wise, we saw great numbers on Quintec. The ball gets rolling very quickly and the FIT Face doesn’t hang onto the ball for long.

What makes me so giddy about the SB5 though is the alignment. Rather than having a different colored 303SS backplate like the SB3, the entire SB5 is the same sort of musty satin silver that sheens well in good light and to the eye without reflecting in the sunlight outside. There’s a single navy sightline up top with two navy alignment aids adorning the bumpers of the putter in the flange area, and the way those bumpers and those navy lines frame the flange is just perfect. It’s not a different finish in this area of the putter, but the way the bumpers flow and are shaped creates an effect to your eyes as if this area in the middle of the flange, about the size of a golf ball, is brighter than the rest of the putter. To my eyes, every time I set the putter down behind the ball it looks like I can see this “line” from the flange all the way to the hole. I haven’t aimed a low-torque toe-up putter this well since I messed around with the Ai-One Max Stripe. And you can probably guess why. 

Flip the SB5 over and you can once again see some material carved out of the back as they try to bring that CG closer to the face, which helps to improve feel and give you a “blade-like” playability, which I (as a lasting member of blade-putter nation) really appreciate. 

Bettinardi was kind enough to finish these putters off for me with my preferred grip choice of a nice long 15-inch grip, which gives me some counter-balanced properties that I prefer, specifically in this type of putter.

For 14 years, one Bettinardi was running the show at Bettinardi Golf, but things changed when founder Bob Bettinardi‘s son, Sam, was ready to join the company.

On this week’s episode of GOLF’s Fully Equipped, both Bettinardis discussed their father-son relationship and how it has benefited their family company over the past decade-plus.

Sam joined the company in 2013 and Bob said the first six years were about him learning the ropes.

“And then from about five or six years after he came in, I pretty much said, ‘Here you go. Trial by fire,'” Bob said. “So Sam has been running things. He’s the president of Bettinardi Golf, which is a great title, he deserves it. He’s done a fantastic job.”

Since taking over as the company’s President, while Bob retains the CEO title, Bob says the company has grown by double digits every year. Their roles have evolved as things have gone on.

“Now that I’m running the business, Bob’s the bank,” Sam joked. “So if I go, I want to go invest in this machinery or we need more embroidery, we need more people, I’ll run the numbers by him.

“And then where I think he’s very valuable right now is design because he’s been doing it, you know, making putters since 1991 and then on our own brand 27 years. So when it comes time to design models for Tour players or new head shapes for a new production series, after I work with our engineering team, 3D print them, I’ll bless the models then I’ll bring him to the boss and say, ‘Hey, here’s what we’re thinking for next year. What do you think?’

“And he’s always got little ideas to shape a muscle or tweak a bumper here or there, a top line thickness, to make it perfect. And I think he’s really, really good at that, because again, he’s earned it and he’s got the experience there.”

Sam has heard the criticism that the second generation often “messes it up”, but he’s confident that he’s towing the line of the family legacy.

Putters

“That’s always been a challenge,” Sam said. “And that’s why I work my butt off to be able to carry on the family name and the legacy. But, you know, there’s a lot of ups, you know, it’s awesome to be in business with my father, who’s again, my dad, I’ve known him my whole life. And to be able to share a lot of really cool experiences, whether it’s going to the Masters together or a major or going on a golf trip with customers. It’s kind of a pinch yourself, like, ‘Hey, this is our job, we’re in the golf world.’”

Not only does Sam carry on that legacy in the present, but he’s helping to set up the company for years to come, even if indirectly.

“You’re looking at a father-son, and you’re looking at generation, right?” Bob said, pointing at Sam. “The greatest thing in the world is Sam has two sons. So now you’re looking at Sam’s oldest son is 7 and his youngest is 1.

“So now you’re looking at even another generation coming up, and again, it’s a family-owned company. And so you could only imagine that through many more years to come, we’re going to just keep going and going and hopefully have something every year for people to enjoy.”

It’s fair to assume the pro who will hoist the U.S. Open trophy on Sunday at Oakmont will make the winning putt with a flatstick they’ve been using for at least a few weeks, if not more.

Although in 2003 at Olympia Fields outside of Chicago, Jim Furyk’s winning putter had been in the bag for a total of 90 hours.

Yes, Furyk put the putter in the bag on Wednesday night/Thursday morning of tournament week at 1 a.m., just a few hours before his morning tee time.

On this week’s episode of GOLF’s Fully Equipped, Bob and Sam Bettinardi of Bettinardi Golf retold the story of when Bob helped Furyk find the putter that won him his only major title.

As Bob Bettinardi tells the story, Furyk had his putter deemed “illegal” on Wednesday afternoon, and as is typical, most of the equipment trucks had already left Olympia Fields for the week, on their way to the next tournament.

Putters

That’s when Furyk spotted Bettinardi.

“He’s like, ‘Where am I going to get a putter?’” Bettinardi recalled. “He sees me and he goes, ‘Don’t you have a shop here?’

“It’s only 30 minutes away. I go, ‘Yeah.’ He goes, ‘I need to get a putter. I can go to the pro shop here, but nothing looks good to me in there. Let’s go to your shop.’”

So that duo, along with Bettinardi’s Tour rep at the time, plus Furyk’s father, Mike, drove to Bettinardi’s headquarters in Tinley Park, Ill., around 6 p.m. and got to work.

It wasn’t like Furyk needed a new putter milled straight from a fresh block of steal. Bettinardi said they had plenty of shapes already made for him. But what they could do at the shop that they couldn’t at the Olympic Fields pro shop was dial in Furyk’s specs.

“What was the key was he could get his loft and his lie and his grip and his length,” Bettinardi said. “He wanted all those things incorporated into that putter.”

The foursome didn’t stop working until 1 a.m., when Furyk was comfortable with the new wand, a Bettinardi Baby Ben mallet.

“And I remember his dad, it was right here, it was upstairs and his dad fell asleep on the couch at around 10 o’clock at night,” Bettinardi said, pointing to the room where the company’s old fitting studio was, which has since moved to their new Studio B facility 30 mins away in Oak Brook.

Four days later, Furyk won the first and only major title with a putter he received only days before.

And the Bettinardi team was right there with him celebrating on Sunday night.

“My father was there actually on Sunday and we’re outside, Jim wins,” Bettinardi said. “Maybe two hours later, Fluff, Jim Furyk’s caddie, right? Who caddied for Tiger Woods, of course. But yeah, he looks at us and we go, he goes, ‘What are you waiting for?’ We go, ‘We’re waiting for Jim to come out and sign our flags.’

“And he goes, ‘You’re coming in. Come on.’

“So, we had dinner with Jim Furyk, Fluff and the president and all the board members of Olympia Fields with steak and lobster till about midnight that night.”

As I’ve chronicled my own golf journey through gear, I’ve started to realize that I’ve fallen into some of the bad habits that we here at GOLF preach against.

Take my putting.

Not until I was fit for a putter at Bettinardi’s Studio B did I become aware of the putting stroke and putter I should be using.

Today, I’m in a putter type I could never have imagined using, but I felt and saw instant results with how easy it was to get the ball rolling end-over-end on my intended line.

For those who have been hesitant to get fit for a putter, this article is for you.

Some background on my putters

All my life, I have used a Ping Anser-style blade putter, which was the putter type that came in my first U.S. Kids’ Golf set. The first Scotty Cameron my dad cut down for me was a 2005 Studio Style Newport 2.5 with a GSS insert.

That putter has a flow neck and a ton of toe hang, which I always thought matched my stroke because I always thought about the putting stroke as an arc and opening the face going back was the easiest way to return it to square.

In 2010, the first golf club I ever bought myself was a 1999 Scotty Cameron Teryllium II Newport 2 for a $150 on eBay, and I had it refinished. This putter has a plumber’s neck, but I was going for feel and I didn’t know anything about putter fittings at the time.

Putters

I kept using that putter for 13 years before a newer Teryllium version came out, this time as a wide-body blade and a high-toe flow short slant neck. I still thought my stroke matched best with a lot of toe flow so I bagged one and never thought twice about it.

I did get fit for this putter but after I already had purchased it. I got fit to the putter, rather than finding a putter that was fit for me.

But, as these things tend to go, I was wrong!

My Bettinardi putter fitting

I was excited to go to Bettinardi’s Studio B in Oak Brook, Ill., just outside of Chicago; it would be my first putter fitting at which we’d start from scratch, and I was going in with a completely open mind.

From the moment we started rolling putts, I realized something was about to change.

“Does this green have a bit of a left break?” I asked, innocently, thinking I was hitting good putts.

“It actually has more of a right break, if anything,” said Tom Sopic, Studio B’s lead hive concierge and my fitter for the day.

Using a high-tech camera system in the fitting bay and Quintic putting analysis, Sopic uncovered a huge revelation about my putting stroke.

He didn’t even need to see the video to confirm it.

“Just watching you hit a couple of putts during your warm-up, I could see that it was more of a pendulum-style stroke,” he said. “The easiest way we saw it was that your takeaway when we came to the apex of your stroke, the pocket of your putter was dead straight behind the golf ball.”

On the video screen, Tom showed me that my putter face stays almost square for most of the stroke, as opposed to opening on the way back and closing on the way through as it would for an arc. Because the face naturally wants to close on the way through, it created a hitch in my putting stroke that would mostly cause me to strike the ball on the heel and pull it.

We could also see that my eyes were about 2 to 2.5 golf-ball widths inside the heel of the putter, which was because my putter was long (36″).

“A lot of times when people are fitting into toe hang putters, they recommend your eyes fall inside the heel, which we do as well,” Sopic said. “But that distance away from it, with you being a pendulum-style putter, is going to create a lot of exaggerated arc that isn’t there naturally.”

Gear

All of this was causing my golf ball to launch with almost as much side spin as forward roll. The Quintic analysis showed my forward spin at a 51 RPM average and the side spin at 45 RPM. Ideally, Sopic said, you want three times as much forward spin as side spin. It wasn’t consistent, either, because my highest side spin was up to 75 RPM of hook spin!

The result of my putter fitting

We stayed in a blade-style putter because, while I believe a mallet putter is more forgiving, I’ve never found one I like looking at. I’ve gone to wider-blades to give me more forgiveness and that seems to do the trick.

Our winning putter was three degrees flatter (67˚) than my gamer (as the toe of my putter was still coming in high), and a half inch shorter (35.5″), which brought my eyes right over the heel of the putter. To me, it really didn’t feel that much different, which was what Sopic was going for. My spine angle didn’t change when addressing the shorter putter.

The real shock to me was the head and neck, which was a Bettinardi BB-28 Slot Back, a nearly face-balanced putter with a single-bend shaft. I had never used any putter without a hosel before.

Interestingly, the BB-28 has an identical offset (3/4ths of a shaft) to my previous gamer, which, despite the absence of a hosel, looked completely different; however, lining up to a putt felt almost the same. That’s no coincidence, Sopic said, because right-eye dominant players, like myself, who like to use sight lines on the flange to line up their putts, tend to also prefer less offset.

But the results on the Quintic were clear. With six putts, my forward rolls averaged 60 RPMs of forward spin and just 12 RPMs of sidespin, well above the 3-to-1 minimum ratio.

The cool part of the Studio B experience was that a new putter was built to my exact specs right there for me, and I was able to go out and play with it immediately that afternoon.

I won’t lie and say there wasn’t an adjustment period, especially considering I’ve been scared of pulling short putts for the better part of six months now, but by my third round with this putter (and even the back nine that day) it was clear that this putter fit me better than any other I’d had before.

What this putter fitting really tells us

We could go on and on about how this has really changed how I think about my putting, or how it’s going to improve my game, but the reality is simple:

You need to be fit for your putter, not to your putter! There’s a difference.

It also comes down to more than just specs. Different putter shapes, faces, necks, etc., all do different things. I could bend and cut my old putter to meet the same specs as this new one, and it still wouldn’t work as well because of the toe flow.

So my suggestion: Go get fit and then buy a putter; your scores will thank you later. It will cost you only about $100 to $150 ($100 at Bettinardi’s Studio B), which really isn’t that much when you’re already spending $400-$500 on a new putter. Think of it as an investment for all the money it will end up winning you on the greens!

Putters

“The equipment junkies that love extremely niche things that their buddies don’t have and they want a true one of one, whether it’s a special face, special face milling, special finish … you name it, we can do it.”

It doesn’t just apply to putters and clubs either. Bettinardi owns all of its headcover manufacturing as well, and they’re bringing on more embroidery machines and can make the perfect headcover to go with your piece too.

But you’d better open your wallet for the service. While a production Bettinardi putter will retail for between $400 and $450, a custom one-of-one putter starts at $3,000.

“It goes up from there based on how complex you want it, right?,” he said. “If you’re looking for a Queen B6 with a top line, with a polished finish, really, you know, fly mill, face mill, and you don’t want the honeycomb or you want the wizard on the soul dancing and you want something else that’s bare bones. But if you want a Queen B6 with a tie-dye PVD, twisty neck with meteorite, and you name it, some kind of intricate face milling, you may be 36, 3,800, but nobody else in golf is doing this.”
