Watch: Pieters Breaks Club After Making Mess of 11th Hole at Troon

July 17, 2016

The 11th hole at Royal Troon may be the hardest hole in the Open Rota, and is widely considered one of the hardest par-4s in the world.

Just ask Thomas Pieters.

The 24-year-old Belgian was going along nicely on Sunday afternoon at Troon, sitting at one under for the championship. That is, until he got to the 11th.

After making his way down the fairway — making an absolute mess of the hole — Pieters was finally ready to go for the green.

He was laying 7.

So, when he finally hit a good shot on the hole, he rewarded that club by unceremoniously breaking it over his leg.

As Peter Jacobson said on the NBC telecast, “If you’re not going to break par, you might as well break something.”
